It seems to me that beginning an account of Winston Churchill's life and times would not hurt.  Thus, I will begin today with excising certain elements from his life that will be highlighted in each issue's current status.  Correct me if wrong; suggest others that are appropriate.  Your input is always requested.

Current input comes from Sir Martin Gilbert's Volume I of his Churchill War Papers: At the Admiralty.  In the future, I may refer elsewhere, but edits from his war years seem to be the best place to get started.

In a message to Admirals Pound and Fraser, Churchill (then the Prime Minister) wrote on March 1, 1940:
"[Admiral James A. Gardiner Troup, the Admiral at Glasgow] could tell them [the workers] that the change of plan was due to the Russian attitude; but I am anxious to know how much work has actually to be undone.  Let me have a report on this.  Each ship must be kept in a condition in which they can be ready at reasonable notice for the enterprise, and meanwhile trade as well as they can."
