On January 24, 2017, I spoke to the 78th Chapter of the Rotary Club here in Joliet, Illinois. They were among the first Rotary groups to be created and represented a rich group full of young and old, new and long term people. They were an energetic and full audience of about 65 to 70 people.
But most importantly, this was the day that Churchill had died: January 24, 1965, a mere 52 years before. It was also the day when he had told his personal private secretary, Jock Colville, that he would die on the same day that his father had died, January 24, 1895. A truly remarkable day!
My speech went exceedingly well; the group was excited and intense, and enjoyed learning much more about Churchill. It was a wonderful time to spend with these new friends and to learn from them of their interest in Churchill. I will use this knowledge as I speak to other Rotary or business groups around the state.
